When composing the original soundtrack to Jacques Deray's nervous and stylised polar ''Un Homme est Mort'' in 1972, Michel Legrand no doubt had no idea that the 7 inch emblazoned with the film's 2 themes would later become one of the most sought after records on the rare groove planet. A masterpiece of funk and warped film music that figures on every self-respecting wish list. To understand the powers of attraction of this little gem of a vinyl, we need only lower the needle onto side 1 and feverishly wait for the beats of its opener which take the form of a strange hypnotic mantra, solidly mixing 2 repetitive lines played by a static bass and a killer wah-wah guitar.
