Pierre Schaeffer

From Pierre Henry to Daft Punk, from Pink Floyd to Aphex Twin and all the other contemporary styles of composition employed by DJs today, music as we know it today would not exist without Schaeffer’s extraordinary, visionary thinking. The English scene, with musicians such as Brian Eno, Robert Fripp and others, thought more or less innocently that it had discovered certain methods of sound processing such as effect looping, feedback, etc. In reality, they were using techniques that Schaeffer had invented thirty years earlier.
