Ornette Coleman
This Is Our Music
A landmark in modern jazz! This Is Our Music is a free jazz album, recorded and originally released in 1961, by saxophonist Ornette Coleman (see 1960 in music). It is especially notable as Coleman's only Atlantic recording to feature a standard – an unorthodox version of \''Embraceable You\'' – and as the only album to feature the quartet lineup with Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, and Ed Blackwell. The session includes several of Coleman's most enduring tunes: \''Blues Connotation\'', \''Beauty Is a Rare Thing\'', and \''Kaleidoscope\'' in particular. (\''Beauty Is a Rare Thing\'' eventually became the title of a boxed set of all Coleman's Atlantic recordings, a set which unearthed a remarkable amount of additional material from the original two sessions.)
