Nicuri
Paradigms
The Paradigms of which Nicuri speaks are darkness, deliverance and determination, modal expressions delivered on three cuts of resonant electronic music. On ‘Doldrums’ Nicuri plays with paradox, combining staggered, dreamy synths with unnerving bass rumbles. To reinvigorate the Doldrums, or as he puts it ‘Replenish the Earth’, the producer implements a menacing analog rumble in the style of New York greats DJ Qu and Joey Anderson. But to ensure that the ground is re-imbued with rational vitality, Nicuri adds a layer of baroscopic viscosity: smog surrounds and engulfs, a suppressed vocal intermittently choking. On the flip, Parrish Adams – aka Intrinsic of Emphasis Records in Chicago – gives the Earth an even harder, more insistent techno edge. He introduces melodic light flashes at the edges of urban darkness, and rumbles it like a train escaping Grand Central Station. Bliq05 is on the run.
