Ethiopian Records returns to 1432 R with Letu Sinega (The Dawn). Here Mulu expands on many of the ideas laid out on his debut record, using a combination of traditional Ethiopian scales and instruments with modern hardware, he's established a singular voice by stitching his country's past to the present. Mulu makes subtle nods to the UK garage and hip hop that fueled his listening habits as a young adult, but he molds these these influences into something distinct from its ancestry. Letu Sinega seamlessly moves from dreamy, ambient passages to grizzled, warped beats, balancing romance and grit in equal measure. Hand drums, vocal ribbons, and rugged basslines color shifting polyrhythms throughout. It's an EP made for the freaks at heart, a ride best suited for risk takers seeking a deep thrill.
