Parkway Rhythm Feat. Boyd Jarvis
Broad St Pressure
The sad passing of proto-house pioneer Boyd Jarvis earlier this year has added extra potency to this release from Mark Seven's Parkway Rhythm project. Jarvis' contributions to ''Broad Street Pressure'', which include some trademark keys and heavy synth basslines, ended up being some of the last things he recorded before his death. These come to the fore on the opening ''Deep Pressure Powermix'', a leisurely proto-house roller that's like a spacey and melancholic take on early '80s classic ''Ma Foom Bey'', but can also be heard in all their glory on the sublime EP closing ''Pressure Keys Powermix''. Elsewhere, Mark Seven pushes up the voodoo levels on the superb ''Tribal Pleasure'' version - which also includes a life-affirming piano solo - while the ''Demo Mix'' is breezy and cheery.
