Môgô
Somersaulting Through Eternity
The Utrecht label Ducktape Records has been releasing local noise, abstract music, experimental techno and electronica on CD-R and tape for about 15 years now. The label owner is now releasing an LP for the first time under the name Môgô. 'Somersaulting Through Eternity' consists of two long tracks, Cycle I and Cycle II, which have been performed live in various forms over the past few years. Cycle I oscillates between light and dark due to the alternation between drone and noise on the one hand, and the more tranquil ambient piano loops and field recordings on the other. Cycle II builds on dark electronica and develops into danceable, but still dark, techno halfway through the song. Môgô dedicates the record to his grandparents who passed away a few years ago and explains that the album is about generations and the cyclicality of things. Musically, these cyclical processes are expressed, especially in Cycle I where loops and repetition are used extensively. Highly recommended for lovers of 'outer space' music for 'inner space' moments of reflection!
