E-Mertz
Electronic Merz 01
Vienna-based label Electronic Merz launches with an extraordinary limited-edition lathe-cut release, featuring club-ready tracks produced by E?Mertz and moving effortlessly between Techno, Electro, and Ambient.
This is far more than a four-track record—it’s a meticulously crafted, DIY art object. Each copy includes a custom-designed leaflet featuring experimental inkjet prints on transparent paper, with hand-cut openings that allow the layers to interact and overlap. The record itself was lathe-cut in Rotterdam, then individually engraved and hand-stickered. With only 25 copies in existence, no two editions are exactly alike—each is a unique artifact.
Musically, the release captures the raw energy of E?Mertz’s hardware jams, blending stark, driving techno with subtle melodic sensibilities. “C?19” is a straight 4/4 club weapon, channeling classic Detroit techno while nodding to early Legowelt. “Tone Percussion,” previously available only on cassette, delivers futuristic electro and has already earned support from Dave Clarke. The b-side opens with the dark ambient atmosphere of “The Waters,” before descending into the bunker-inspired intensity of “Kastl in the Night.”
