Mazlika

Mazlika is a Tokyo-based producer who has also been a dancer since childhood, and that shows in this EP, which approaches things from a physical rather than purely functional angle. Rhythms stretch and contract across 'Sense-datum' and 'A-priori', a pair of sonic collages with jumbled found sounds and percussion scattered across broken rhythms. There's a tension in the way sounds land so unpredictably that it keeps you on your toes. 'Devil's Advocate' and 'Noble Lie' lean further into abstraction with fractured structures buried deep, warped lines and splashy hits all mapping out a widescreen stereo field in high definition. By the time 'Platonism' arrives, you're utterly subsumed by this intricate world of otherworldly sound.
