Julian 'October' Smith runs Bristol’s Caravan label, and here with his debut ep for Misericord he has gifted us a swampy analogue house ep, with a nod to the chaotic sampladelia of the 90s but eyes set firmly on the future. From the unsettling exploitation-disco of Bree Daniels, the wonk-house of Shilmirane and the slow-psychfunk-burn of HD-189733-b it makes us as excited as when we first heard motorbass and la funk mob for the first time (and that’s saying something). But this is going to do damage on forward thinking floors like wolf + lamb or droog too.
